DCI Intensifies Probe into Susan Njoki’s Mysterious Death as Hospital Staffer Disappears.

The investigation into the shocking death of renowned mental health advocate Dr. Susan Kamengere Njoki has taken a dramatic twist after a key employee at Chiromo Hospital Group’s Braeside branch went missing.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now considers the female staffer a critical person of interest in what is shaping up to be one of Kenya’s most high-profile murder investigations this year.

Susan Njoki, the founder and CEO of Toto Touch, was admitted to the hospital on July 14 under unclear circumstances. Within 24 hours, she was dead. Initial reports downplayed the incident, but mounting pressure from the public and Njoki’s family forced authorities to dig deeper.

What followed was an autopsy that confirmed the unthinkable—Susan Njoki died from manual strangulation.DCI detectives, now working with forensic teams and hospital administration, have been combing through hours of CCTV footage retrieved from the facility. Sources close to the investigation confirmed that Njoki was captured on camera being brought in and later escorted to her room.

However, what transpired in her final hours remains the biggest mystery. The missing hospital staffer, who disappeared just two days after Njoki’s death, is believed to hold crucial information about the final movements and the persons she may have interacted with before her life was cut short.

Authorities are also pursuing leads involving Njoki’s husband, Alloise Ngure, and her psychiatrist, Dr. Onyancha—both of whom were arrested and later released on bail pending further investigations.

Their roles in her admission and the decisions made thereafter have raised serious questions, especially after it emerged that Njoki may have been forcibly admitted and injected without consent.

Human rights activists and legal organizations have condemned the incident, calling it a gross violation of medical ethics and individual rights. According to family members, Njoki was not in a mental health crisis and had never expressed suicidal thoughts.

They insist she was a strong woman with a mission to transform mental health awareness in Kenya—a mission that was abruptly and violently ended. The case has sparked national outrage and reignited debate about the treatment of mental health patients in private and public institutions.

Advocacy groups are now demanding regulatory reforms, mandatory patient rights education for mental health staff, and accountability for any medical institution found complicit in rights violations.

Meanwhile, the Njoki family has vowed not to proceed with burial plans until the truth is fully uncovered and justice is served. They have called for an independent commission to oversee the case, citing fears of interference due to the high-profile nature of some individuals allegedly involved.

As DCI continues to follow the CCTV trail and expand the manhunt for the missing staffer, Kenya waits with bated breath. The death of Susan Njoki has exposed a chilling gap in patient safety, ethical responsibility, and institutional oversight.

For a woman who dedicated her life to saving others, the fight for justice may be the legacy that defines her final chapter.
