Wamuzi News KeThe Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has issued a high-level alert following the sudden and mysterious disappearance of rights blogger and activist, Ndiangui Kinyagia, from his residence in Kinoo, Kiambu County.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves across human rights circles, is being treated as a possible enforced disappearance—an increasingly disturbing trend in the country.
According to eyewitness reports and family accounts, Kinyagia was last seen at his home before a fleet of six to ten unmarked Subaru vehicles reportedly stormed his compound in broad daylight.
Sources say unknown individuals believed to be security agents forcibly entered the premises, seized his personal electronics including laptops and mobile phones, and took possession of his travel documents.
Kinyagia has not been seen or heard from since.In an emergency press briefing held earlier today, LSK President Faith Odhiambo condemned the incident, describing it as “a blatant violation of fundamental human rights and a dangerous escalation in the ongoing assault on civil liberties.”
“We are deeply concerned by the growing number of cases where citizens—especially those critical of government policy—disappear under questionable circumstances,” said Odhiambo.
“This incident bears the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance, and we demand an immediate and thorough investigation.”
The LSK said it had received verified information from the victim’s family confirming that Kinyagia’s last communication was around 7:00 a.m. on the day of his disappearance.
His mother, who was present at the scene, described the raid as “military-like,” with the men in civilian clothing refusing to identify themselves or state their purpose.
LSK is now calling on the National Police Service, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and other relevant state agencies to act swiftly in locating the blogger and holding those responsible to account.
“We will not rest until Ndiangui Kinyagia is found and returned safely to his family. The State must guarantee the safety of every citizen, regardless of their political views or activism,” Odhiambo stated.
Human rights organizations have also weighed in, calling the case a chilling reminder of the shrinking civic space in Kenya. Amnesty International Kenya issued a parallel statement, urging the government to ensure transparency and compliance with international human rights protocols.
Kinyagia, known for his outspoken commentary on governance, corruption, and police accountability, has recently gained prominence on social media platforms for his sharp critiques of state excesses.
His disappearance is raising concerns that he may have been targeted for his activism.This latest incident adds to a growing list of similar cases where vocal citizens have vanished without trace, with little to no official explanation offered.
