The accident involving a trailer transporting brand-new vehicles took place around 7 am when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over on the busy highway.
The trailer then proceeded to crash down the valley, resulting in the destruction of several vehicles and the subsequent death of one individual. In the images and videos that have circulated online, the heavy vehicle was captured overturned and severely damaged.
The vehicles being transported were also entirely destroyed, with the photos illustrating the severity of the accident. The footage also captured residents from the vicinity of the trailer as first responders arrived to assist the injured.
Shortly afterward, local police officers arrived at the scene and secured the area to facilitate further investigations. The trailer was subsequently removed from the valley and towed to the nearest police station.
The early morning accident caused significant traffic congestion along the busy road, necessitating the intervention of a traffic marshal to manage the flow of vehicles.
The Mai Mahiu stretch has recently developed a reputation as a blackspot, with numerous road accidents reported in the same area. The recent incident occurs just a month after approximately 15 individuals were injured in an accident on the same highway.
In the accident that took place on September 13, one person died from injuries while being transported to the hospital. The accident occurred when a trailer transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) collided with several vehicles in Mai Mahiu.
Among the vehicles involved in the incident was a matatu carrying mourners. According to witnesses who communicated with the press, the trailer reportedly lost control after deviating from its lane and subsequently struck the matatu from behind.
In confirming the accident, the Kenya Red Cross Society announced that it had dispatched a rescue team to the scene to assist in saving lives.
“A road traffic incident involving a 14-seater PSV and a lorry has occurred at Twin Bridge on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway. ” “There are trapped casualties and response teams are on-site,” the Kenya Red Cross announced.
