“The Warmongers”: Ruto Allies Issue Stark Warnings as Gen‑Z Protest Looms on June 25.

With nationwide Gen‑Z protests scheduled for June 25 to mark the deadly anti-Finance Bill unrest of last year, supporters of President William Ruto have escalated their rhetoric, unleashing chilling threats and ominous warnings against demonstrators.

Dubbed “warmongers” by Daily Nation, several pro-government MPs have stepped forward in recent days, promising severe consequences for any attempt to take to the streets .

“Say your goodbyes before you leave home” – Economic adviser David Ndii issued this menacing caution to young protesters, branding them “stupid” and declaring no room for unconstitutional action in Kenya, warning, “there will be casualties” .

Tiaty MP William Kamket went further during a speech in Sigor, West Pokot County, vowing to mobilise Pokot youth from his constituency to “protect the government” and confront protestors directly .

“They cried about the mayhem caused by the goons. Let them try again,” Kamket warned, ominously referencing the violence during last year’s June 18 protests .South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro also weighed in, suggesting it would not be “business as usual” for demonstrators, accusing critics of colluding with anti-government actors .

Simultaneously, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura issued a directive stating that no demonstrations will be permitted on June 25, urging citizens to “carry on with their normal daily activities” or commemorate from home if they wish .

He condemned past violence, especially criminal elements who hijack protests, while the National Police Service warned business owners against hiring private security during the expected unrest .

What’s at stake?

June 25 marks the one-year anniversary of the finance bill protests, where police action near the National Assembly resulted in the deaths of nine Gen‑Z demonstrators and dozens more .

Those events sparked nationwide outrage—60 people lost their lives in Nairobi and beyond—fueling a youth-led movement against corruption, unemployment, and heavy-handed policing .

In response, the Administration and National Security Committee summoned top security officials to defend readiness plans—including undercover police deployment and coordination—to prevent a repeat of last year’s chaos .

Rights groups warn escalation.

Amid these ominous developments, rights organisations and opposition figures are sounding the alarm. Warnings that pro-government figures may funnel armed gangs into the capital to intimidate and break up peaceful protests intensify fears of fresh bloodshed .

Opposition voices have cautioned that inflammatory pronouncements from ruling-party allies risk provoking violent confrontations. Any sabotage of legitimate dissent could prove disastrous for its outspoken youth proponents.

Security services on high alert.

Nairobi’s regional police commander, George Seda, assured the public that security forces are preparing to maintain order—pledging restraint but readiness. “Officers will be under instructions to shun any brutal force,” he told local media .
