Tragedy struck a village in Matiliku, Makueni when a 50-year-old man killed his two sons before dying by suicide.

The bodies of the three were discovered Monday morning hours after the incident, police said.

The motive of the murder-suicide was linked to a domestic quarrel with the man’s wife, police said.

Police said the man and the woman had separated and he lived with the deceased children.

The body was found on the floor of the house with a deep cut in the throat.

Police said an empty poison was found next to the body.

A few meters away, the bodies of the boy aged 16 and another one aged nine were found with blood caked around them.

The man had slit their throats using a panga.

The police said they also recovered the killer weapon and suicide note at the scene.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.Police said they are investigating suicide murder.

Locals told police the couple had been having domestic quarrels before the wife left months ago.

Locals gathered at the scene as police moved the bodies to the mortuary.

Elsewhere in Kisasi, Kitui, the body of a 30-year-old man was found dangling from a tree after a suspected suicide.

The body of Kimote Katee was found dangling from the tree next to the Mwiwe River within Ngusyini village, police said.

Police said the body was found with a nylon rope tied around his neck.

The body was moved to Kitui County referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police say the suicide trend has been worrying and increasing as up to two cases are reported daily.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
