Uhuru Kenyatta Explodes: “Ruto Has Destroyed My Legacy With Untested Experiments”

In a blistering address to Jubilee delegates today, former President Uhuru Kenyatta broke his prolonged silence and attacked President William Ruto’s administration on multiple fronts, accusing it of eroding key social gains, unleashing hostility against his family and allies, and upending democratic norms.

Standing before party stalwarts at the Ngong Racecourse, Kenyatta painted a picture of a post-2022 Kenya rife with intimidation and regression. He asserted that immediately after handing over power, he, his family, and close political associates were subjected to threats from unnamed forces, part of a broader campaign to dismantle his legacy.

“Hostile Environment” After Election

Kenyatta recounted that after the contested 2022 polls, he and his political base endured “an atmosphere of hostility,” purporting that the political transition was marred not just by rivalry but by attempts to delegitimize, silence and even threaten those associated with the previous administration.

He told the crowd: “We faced hostility not only as a party, but as individuals—my family, my administration were targeted. Yet here we stand, ready to rebuild.” His words signal more than grievance—they foreshadow renewed confrontation as he repositions Jubilee for 2027.

Legacy Under Fire: “Gains Eroded by Unproven Projects”

Kenyatta didn’t stop at personal attacks. He turned his fire on President Ruto’s policies, lamenting that several hallmark programs, especially Linda Mama, have been replaced by what he described as untested, unproven schemes that have left ordinary Kenyans paying the price.

“Many of the gains we made have been erased,” he declared. “Linda Mama and other core programs were abandoned for new, experimental policies. While these experiments fumble, the public suffers and progress stalls.”

He challenged the rationale behind the reforms, arguing that replacing tried-and-tested systems with unproven alternatives undercuts social protection, healthcare, and equity.

Political Stakes Soar: Signals for 2027

Kenyatta’s interventions today carry clear political undertones. By painting a narrative of betrayals, threats, and policy backsliding, he is laying the groundwork for a refreshed Jubilee resurgence—with Fred Matiang’i, present at the event, often cited as a possible presidential standard-bearer for 2027.

He invoked democratic values and moral integrity, urging cadres to reject “ethnic populism” and focus on institutional strength, transparency, and public trust.
