UDA Expels Senator Gloria Orwoba in Stunning Move.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially kicked out nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba with immediate effect, sparking a political firestorm that’s sending shockwaves through the Kenyan political landscape.

The decision came hot on the heels of a heated National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Nairobi on Monday. UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar announced the explosive verdict, confirming that Orwoba’s ties with the ruling party are now completely severed.

“The Party’s Disciplinary Committee has ruled decisively — Gloria Orwoba is no longer a member of UDA,” Omar stated in a terse, no-nonsense declaration.

According to UDA’s internal Constitution, Article 29 was invoked after what the party describes as “comprehensive deliberations” into Orwoba’s recent actions. The NEC not only endorsed the Disciplinary Committee’s report but stamped it with finality: Gloria Orwoba’s chapter in UDA is closed.

But that’s not all. In a blistering follow-up, UDA has barred Orwoba from accessing any benefits or privileges accorded to its members and warned that she is forbidden from representing or speaking on behalf of the party in any forum — effective immediately.

UDA has also notified Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to initiate her removal from Parliament. The message is loud and clear: Orwoba is out.

In a swift succession plan, the party has already selected her replacement. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County is poised to take Orwoba’s seat in the Senate, based on the official party list submitted to the IEBC before the 2022 elections.

The party also sent formal notifications to the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), sealing Orwoba’s fate.

Why Was She Expelled?

Behind the scenes, the tension had been brewing.

Orwoba’s decision to appear alongside former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i during his controversial return to Kenya on April 22 was the tipping point. She even attended his homecoming event in Kisii days later — a move UDA insiders saw as nothing short of betrayal.

But the final nail in the coffin? A fiery radio interview on the same day, where Orwoba openly criticized President Ruto’s administration, particularly targeting the government’s labour migration policies. For a nominated senator of the ruling party, that was seen as crossing a red line.

“Your conduct signals clear allegiance to a rival political agenda,” the Disciplinary Committee noted in its damning conclusion. “This is disloyalty of the highest order.”

Complaints filed by UDA members Festus Omwamba and Henry Muriithi lit the fuse, and the fallout has now exploded into full public view.

What This Means for Kenyan Politics

Gloria Orwoba’s dramatic fall from grace highlights a deeper rift within UDA’s ranks — one that could reshape the party’s internal politics and alliances.

While the party insists it upholds Kenya’s democratic values and freedom of expression, it also drew a hard line: loyalty to party ideology is non-negotiable.

As political temperatures rise across the country, all eyes are now on Orwoba. Will she fight back or align with a new political force?

This story is far from over. Stay tuned.
