Two police officers are among three suspects arrested in connection with a violent attempted robbery along the Githurai-Soweto railway line on Monday, February 17.
In a statement released on Tuesday, February 18, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that officers from the Githurai Police Post were conducting a routine patrol when they came upon a troubling scene.
“On the night of February 17, 2025, while on their regular patrol, the officers encountered a concerning situation.

“The trio had pinned a member of the public to the ground in an attempt to rob him of his belongings,” stated the DCI.
According to the DCI, the officers quickly intervened, arresting the suspects at the scene and taking them to the Githurai Police Post for processing.
The DCI further stated, “Taking prompt action, the officers apprehended the suspects and brought them to the Githurai Police Post for arraignment the following day. ”
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations warns both the public and police officers against engaging in criminal activities, as such actions will be met with severe consequences,” confirmed the DCI.
Notably, this incident coincided with the arraignment of Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, a police officer assigned to DCI Kibwezi, at the Makindu Law Courts on charges of robbery with violence.
Wanabisi was linked to robbery incidents in Mtito Andei and Yikisaya Trading Centre within Kibwezi Sub-County.
Initial investigations suggested Wanabisi’s involvement in both robbery cases.
His firearm was seized, and the spent cartridges found at both crime scenes were sent to DCI Headquarters for ballistic testing.
The analysis revealed that the cartridges found had been fired from Wanabisi’s weapon.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations strongly condemns such conduct by police officers, emphasizing that any misconduct will face stringent legal action,” stated the DCI.
