Tension has gripped Kakamega County after police confirmed the arrest of ten suspects linked to a shocking attack on Emakale Police Post in Matungu Sub-County. The brazen incident, which saw public documents destroyed and an officer’s personal belongings vandalized, has rattled the security apparatus and sparked outrage across the region.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), a joint operation conducted earlier today by officers from Matungu Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) successfully cornered and apprehended the suspects believed to have orchestrated the violence.
“All the arrested individuals are currently in custody and will face charges in court,” the NPS announced in a stern statement.
The midnight raid on the police post had left residents in shock, raising fears of growing lawlessness in the area. Authorities say the act was not only an attack on police officers but also a direct affront to the rule of law.
“We want to make it clear that attacks on police facilities, destruction of government property, or obstruction of officers while on duty will never be tolerated. Anyone found engaging in such criminal behavior will be dealt with firmly and swiftly,” the police statement read.
The arrests are part of an intensified crackdown to restore order and reassure locals who were left shaken by the daring assault. Security agencies have hinted that more arrests could follow as investigations widen.
The incident has raised critical questions about rising cases of hostility against law enforcement officers and the need for stronger community-police collaboration to curb insecurity.
Residents of Matungu, an area that has previously witnessed violent gangs and criminal activity, are now calling for heightened patrols and tighter security to deter future attacks.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days as police vow to ensure justice is served without compromise.
