Prominent Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi Faces Calls for Senior Counsel Revocation Over Judiciary Attacks
Renowned city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi is under fire as two legal practitioners have filed a petition demanding his removal from the Roll of Senior Counsel over alleged misconduct.
Lawyers Paul Kiragu Wathuta and John Murimi Njomo accuse Ahmednasir of repeatedly undermining the judiciary, citing violations of Rule 4(c) and Rule 15 of the Advocates (Senior Counsel Conferment and Privileges). They argue that his relentless criticism, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), has tarnished the integrity of the legal profession.
The petition highlights numerous instances where Ahmednasir allegedly made baseless claims against judges. The complainants claim he has ignored previous warnings and instead escalated his attacks on the judiciary.
Ahmednasir, who was awarded the Senior Counsel title in December 2012, has represented high-profile clients throughout his career. However, the petitioners insist that the title should be reserved for those who uphold professionalism and ethical conduct.
This development comes in the wake of Ahmednasir’s own legal challenge against seven Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice Martha Koome. His petition, invoking Article 168(1) of the Kenyan Constitution, accuses the justices of gross misconduct.
Ahmednasir’s battle with the Supreme Court follows its January 18 ruling barring him from presenting cases before it, citing his continuous public ridicule and criticism of the court.
As the legal battle intensifies, Ahmednasir now faces the possibility of losing his prestigious title, marking a dramatic turn in his long-standing feud with the judiciary.
