Shock as Govt-Backed Land Grab Leaves Railways Retirees Homeless!

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto’s administration of orchestrating the land dispute involving Kenya Railways retirees.

Speaking on Friday, March 14, 2025, Kalonzo met with the Association of Kenya Railways Retirees (AKERARE) and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua in Nairobi. This followed an incident where police prevented the retirees from accessing their land on Valley Road.

According to Kalonzo, law enforcement officers claimed they were acting on directives from top authorities. He strongly criticized the government, alleging that it operates without empathy and uses state power to enable corruption and land grabbing at the expense of vulnerable citizens.

“Today, I met with AKERARE members alongside Martha Karua, Senators Dan Maanzo and Agnes Muthama, and Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe at the Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi. These retirees attempted to reclaim their property—Land Reference Number 209/1064/1, 2, 3, 4 & 5—on Valley Road, only to be blocked by police citing ‘orders from above.’ This reflects a leadership that thrives on greed, impunity, and disregard for justice,” Kalonzo remarked.

He further accused Ruto’s government of neglecting the retired railway workers, who were dismissed without receiving their pension.

Additionally, he alleged that a senior official in the Kenya Kwanza administration had illegally taken over the land, which is now heavily guarded by police.

“The Kenya Railways Corporation, following a Cabinet Memo, transferred this land to its retirement scheme. However, a high-ranking Kenya Kwanza official has forcefully taken it over, displacing the rightful pensioners. Meanwhile, police continue to guard the property as a so-called ‘private developer’ demolishes the retirees’ homes,” Kalonzo wrote on X.

He has called for the immediate return of the land to its rightful owners and urged the government to stop further land dispossession.
