Safaricom will charge customers for reverse call service after two attempts.

Telecommunication giant Safaricom PLC has announced it will be limiting the reverse call service to only two free attempts in a single day.

The teleco on Monday, August 19 noted that it will now be charging customers Ksh0.50 on the third reverse call request.

However, Safaricom mentioned that customers will not incur any other costs while using the service for the rest of the day.

“You will now be billed Ksh 0.50 on the 3rd reverse call request of the day but will not incur any other costs while using the service for the rest of the day,” Safaricom stated.

Safaricom introduced the reverse call service in 2019 to complement the “please call me” service. The reverse call service enables callers to transfer the cost of a call to the receiver by adding ‘#’ before the number they are calling.

A customer receiving a reverse call request will see the caller’s details appear on the screen as normal, but once they pick up the call, they will receive a voice prompt asking them to key in “1” to accept the reverse call.

The service is only available for on-net calls and the cost of the call will be equivalent to the receiver’s normal call cost.
