Ruto cuts school fees in Rift valley

Murmurs as RUTO Reduces School Fees in Rift Valley While Other Regions Struggle – Look!

President William Ruto has announced a notable reduction in school fees in certain areas of Rift Valley.

Parents in insecurity-affected regions like Kerio Valley will now pay Ksh5,000 annually, decreased from Ksh30,000, as per Ruto’s announcement.

During a three-day working tour of North Rift, Ruto stated this initiative aims to boost student enrollment in schools situated in hardship and insecure locales.

He highlighted that the program intends to assist families whose livelihoods are often disrupted by insecurity and flooding in the area.

Ruto clarified that the reduced fees are applicable for a limited duration.

“Due to the challenges faced by residents in this area concerning insecurity and flooding, we have decided to set the school fees at Ksh5,000 for a specific period,” the President mentioned.

“We have collaborated with parliament to provide bursaries, allowing parents to pay just Ksh5,000 annually, equating to Ksh1,500 per term,” he added.

The initiative will benefit three counties: Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Baringo.

The president made these remarks during the inauguration of the new Liter Girls Secondary School in Marakwet East Sub-County, which was devastated by mudslides in 2020, resulting in 15 fatalities.
