Priscilla waimani, a social media influencer and digital creator,sheds light on the kind of wickedness people have in their hearts. In a short video, re-posted by “Nairobi gossip club”, a very popular Instagram account, Priscilla, went to Mathare, mabatini area. Enraged and clearly heartbroken, she narrates the state of the matter. According to the video, a landlord has removed part of the roof of a (mud) house due to rent arrears of ksh 6,000.

There is a baby on a well-made bed peacefully sleeping as, a young boy, allegedly his brother sits next to him, as another young child sits adjacent, eating some beans and chapati that, the lady bought at a hotel nearby. She clearly states that she found the mother, boiling a mixture of water and sugar in order to keep the children from going hungry. Sitted on the floor of the house, she shows that she could only afford to buy three sachets of sugar, one going for ksh 10. 

Milka, an elder who phoned Priscilla informed her of the situation and further stated that the small family could go days without food. Efforts to reach this landlord, proved futile, which forced the digital creator to result to reaching out to the area chairman who came immediately and together, they decided to move the family to a different location. “Huyu landlord tunajua ni haki take kuchukua pesa lakini hii ni unyama” Priscilla says.

According to the video, the provoked digital creator, emphasizes on the current weather in Nairobi, the heavy rains and the cold. She continues to highlight that it isn’t fair that others get to live in well built homes while others cannot even afford to keep a roof over their heads. The current state of the Kenyan economy is not favourable to the people working casual jobs. With the increase in the price of food items, transport and even education is disqualifying allot of young dreams, as parents can’t give their children a condusive environment to grow and develop their thei full potential.

With the evident increase in various amenities, subsequently, the wage should also increase in order for people to afford their day-to-day needs. According to the census conducted in 2019, Nairobi has over 4 million residents, in this number 2.5 million reside in the slums. Where is the Country heading and are the poor becoming poorer as the
