Police Intercept 2 Traffickers Transporting Sh12 Million Bhang in Heavy Truck.

Two suspects are being held at the Mariakani Police Station as investigators conclude their probe into their drug-trafficking venture.

Twenty-eight-year-old Joseph Nzomo and his accomplice, 27-year-old Auress Godfrey, were apprehended on Saturday, June 8, by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Malindi.

The officers were acting on a tip-off that the duo was using a truck, a Mercedes-Benz Actros KAY 269J/ZC, to transport over 429kg of bhang, estimated to have a street value of about Sh12 million.

With them at the station are the sacks of the substance and the truck.

The detectives did not establish the destination of the substance.

They were ambushed at an open field where they were loading sacks of the prohibited herb.

While warning traffickers and peddlers against the illicit trade, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) vowed to catch up with them in their hideouts.

This came days after the police launched a manhunt for another duo of drug traffickers who left behind seven sacks of bhang worth Sh13 million on the street.

The law enforcers stumbled on the narcotics while on patrol duties along Busia-Kisumu road on Thursday, June 6.

They noticed a disturbed vegetation cover that evidenced that some criminals were monitoring police activities in the area, waiting for a chance to pounce on the narcotics, which were later transported to the Busia Police Station as they embarked on searching for the traffickers.
