Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen criticized Kenyans who rejoiced at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s loss in the African Union Commission elections.
Speaking at a funeral in Baringo, he emphasized the need for patriotic perspectives, stating, “What benefits the country should be prioritized, even if it favors a political rival. ” He lamented that Raila’s victory could have led to more job opportunities for Kenyan professionals in Africa and beyond.

Murkomen expressed that the failure was not about Raila or President William Ruto, but about Kenya as a whole. He reflected on the pain of losing for the second time, highlighting the importance of unity and perseverance for future opportunities.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also condemned the celebrations, labeling them as unpatriotic. He urged Kenyans to prioritize national identity over community ties, asserting that the time will come for the supporters of Raila to celebrate their successes.
