Tyrek Burton, a newlywed groom in North Carolina, was tragically killed on Saturday, October 12, just hours after his wedding. The 37-year-old father of four recently married his wife, Kiara Holloway, 33.
This joyous day turned into a nightmare approximately seven hours later. According to a recording obtained by WRAL News from Broadcastify, a police scanner system, he was shot 15 times. The North Carolina Beat reports that the deceased had exited the venue to “retrieve something.”
An individual followed him and accused him of cutting him off in traffic. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect confronted Tyrek, demanding to know who had passed him at a nearby stop sign.
Family members and authorities now believe the shooting is related to road rage. They classify it as a random act of violence.
Burton’s sister, Brittany, expressed disbelief. She stated, “What was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life turned into something tragic.
”A devastated Brittany added, “My brother didn’t know this man at all; they had never met. ” He did not inquire about his name. They did not shake hands. This was an entirely random stranger, and he shot him in cold blood.
”The incident took place near the Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro shortly after the wedding reception concluded.
An individual allegedly entered the park, accusing Burton of involvement in a traffic incident. Shortly thereafter, Burton was shot in the presence of his 33-year-old new bride and others, including his daughter.
His family is devastated. Burton’s mother, Carolyn, stated, “He waited 13 years to marry her, and he didn’t even get to take her home.
”The family is seeking justice, hoping the shooter will be held accountable. They have also established a GoFundMe page to support Burton’s four daughters.
Police arrived at the scene at approximately 8:49 p. m. After receiving reports of gunfire, authorities found Burton suffering from severe injuries. Unfortunately, he did not survive. The investigation is ongoing, and the family is continuing to seek answers and justice for their loved one.
