Maa Community Senator Pledges Full Backing for Gachagua in 2027 Bid.

In a high-stakes display of political mobilization, Kajiado Senator Seki Lenku has publicly vowed unwavering support from the Maasai community for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as preparations for the 2027 general election intensify.

Speaking in Nairobi after leading a delegation to Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence on June 23, Senator Seki dismissed claims that Gachagua’s backing in the Maa region is limited to just two MPs. He pointed to his delegation as evidence of broad-based support. “If we are only two people, then why is our delegation so large?” he challenged.

During the meeting, Seki emphasized that Maasai communities across Narok, Kajiado, and other areas are firmly aligned with Gachagua and his Democratic Citizens Party (DCP). He rejected narratives suggesting resistance among local governors, asserting they were submitting to state pressure—not refusing support.

Seki projected that the DCP will secure at least five parliamentary seats and 25 MCA positions in the Maa region during the next election cycle. He also cited political prudence in his decision not to back former impeachment proceedings against Gachagua, claiming his vote was guided by the popular will of his constituents.

This development comes amid mounting political maneuvering within Kenya Kwanza, as Gachagua seeks to reinforce his base and position himself as a key contender in 2027. Senator Seki’s endorsement significantly strengthens Gachagua’s foothold in the strategically important Maasai vote bank.

As the political landscape shifts ahead of the next election, the backing from a unified Maasai community may offer Gachagua a powerful launchpad. The question now is whether this alliance will translate into real political momentum—and whether rival factions will counter with their own coalition-building ahead of the crucial 2027 contest.
