Key Suspect in British Businessman’s Murder Found Dead in Shocking Suicide!

A key suspect linked to the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott has died by suicide, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Samuel Musembi, who was being pursued for his alleged role in the crime, was suspected of driving the vehicle used to transport Scott’s remains from Pipeline, Nairobi, to Makongo Forest in Makueni County.

Authorities revealed that Musembi had been hiding at a relative’s residence in Dandora, Nairobi. Prior to his death, he had taken refuge at a friend’s house, claiming he needed time away from his home for unspecified reasons.

According to the friend, Musembi seemed anxious and uneasy. On Tuesday morning, the friend left for work, leaving Musembi behind to rest. However, upon returning in the evening, he found the door locked from the inside. Forced to break in, he discovered Musembi unconscious on the bed, foaming at the mouth with blood oozing from a self-inflicted stab wound on his neck.

Musembi was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital, but medical personnel refused to admit him due to the severity of his condition. He was then transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday morning.

A police investigator involved in the case remarked, “He was under immense pressure. He ended his own life.” The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, confirmed the preliminary conclusion of suicide, noting that an autopsy would provide additional insights into the exact cause of death.

Early findings suggest Musembi may have initially ingested a poisonous substance before resorting to stabbing himself multiple times when the poison failed to act quickly.

Following Musembi’s death, authorities have intensified efforts to locate the individual who provided him shelter, as their whereabouts remain unknown.

On March 7, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had appealed to the public for information on the whereabouts of Musembi and two other fugitives—Benard Mbunga Mbusu and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa, also known as Edu—who are believed to be connected to Scott’s brutal killing.

Scott, a 58-year-old businessman, was found dead on February 22, 2025, in a secluded area of Makongo Forest. Reports suggest he had traveled to Kenya for a business conference but was lured into a meeting under false pretenses before being abducted and murdered on February 17. His body was later transported over 100 kilometers and abandoned in the forest.

Detectives have arrested two suspects, Alex Mutua Kithuka and Albunus Mutinda Nzioki, who are currently in custody and assisting with the investigation.

Court proceedings have revealed that Scott was allegedly taken to Mutua’s residence in Pipeline, where he was killed. Investigators also allege that the suspects attempted to withdraw money using Scott’s credit cards in Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa before being apprehended on March 1 along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

Meanwhile, Mbusu, who remains at large, was last seen on CCTV footage with Scott on February 16, just before the businessman disappeared. Authorities have also linked him to a criminal record dating back to 2018.
