Jeremiah Kioni: Uhuru Won’t Work with Ruto Despite Ichaweri Meeting

Jubilee Party Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, has minimized the significance of the Monday meeting between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto and Uhuru convened at the latter’s residence in Ichaweri, and the gathering has sparked political curiosity in the Mt Kenya area, particularly at a time when Ruto is grappling with a turbulent dissent in this influential constituency.

Nevertheless, in an interview with a local newspaper, Kioni refuted assertions of a political alliance between the former and current President.

“Regarding the question of whether Uhuru will endorse experts like ODM, that is not his approach. He believes in and desires to see a robust opposition because a robust opposition allows our democratic environment to flourish,” Kioni remarked.

“He (Uhuru) does not advocate for assimilation. He does not support incorporating individuals into government in that way,” he continued.

Kioni emphasized that Uhuru’s meeting with Ruto should not be interpreted as an indication of a forthcoming coalition.

City attorney Nelson Havi has also minimized the unexpected gathering.

Havi stated that Ruto and Uhuru have both individually disappointed the vote-rich Mt Kenya region and are incapable of doing anything to win back the support of the area’s voters to enhance their political opportunities.
