Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma Declares Civil War in ODM – Vows to Oust SG Edwin Sifuna Over Ruto Alignment.

A fierce political storm has erupted within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma launched a direct attack against party Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of sabotaging party unity and undermining strategic decisions.

In an unexpected move that has shocked the political establishment, Kaluma called for Sifuna’s immediate resignation both as Secretary General and as Senate Minority Leader, accusing him of playing divisive politics and betraying the spirit of party loyalty.

Kaluma stated that if Sifuna fails to resign voluntarily, efforts will be initiated to force him out. This comes in the wake of growing internal divisions within ODM, triggered by debates surrounding cooperation with President William Ruto’s government.

While a section of the party supports dialogue and alignment with the ruling side ahead of the 2027 elections, others, led by Sifuna, have openly opposed the idea. Sifuna has warned he would walk away from ODM should the party endorse Ruto for re-election.

Kaluma’s remarks have now intensified fears of an open civil war within ODM, with loyalists and critics drawing battle lines. The sharp contrast between those pushing for national unity and those clinging to ODM’s traditional opposition identity has put the party leadership under unprecedented pressure.

The tension has exposed deeper cracks in ODM’s structure and decision-making process, raising serious questions about the future of the party and its ability to maintain cohesion in the face of shifting political alliances.

Many are now watching closely to see how the ODM hierarchy responds to Kaluma’s ultimatum, and whether the party will survive this internal power struggle as it prepares for the next general election.

The situation remains fluid, and more fallout is expected in the coming days as grassroots members and elected leaders take sides.

With ODM’s political future now hanging in the balance, Kenyans are bracing for what could be a major realignment in the country’s political landscape.
