President William Ruto on Sunday, June 15, launched a scathing attack on a road contractor during a church service in Kivaywa, Kakamega County.
Speaking with unfiltered fury, the President exposed the contractor’s dismal performance on a stalled road project in Butere, declaring that the individual had been fired on the spot. And in a move that shocked many, Ruto didn’t mince words:
“I told him to leave the job and go burn charcoal! Let’s find someone else who can work!”
The president’s brutal takedown sent a chilling message across the country—non-performing contractors are on notice. His remarks drew applause from the congregation, who welcomed the decision to replace incompetent players with professionals capable of driving progress in the region.
Ruto revealed that six new road projects would kick off across Kakamega, reinforcing his administration’s pledge to revolutionize infrastructure in Western Kenya. He called out contractors who’ve already been paid but continue to delay delivery.
“They must complete these roads. It’s not just about contracts—it’s about unlocking the economy of Kakamega.”
The president also acknowledged delays in the rural electrification program but assured Kenyans that action is now underway. He announced a massive Ksh 3 billion budget aimed at lighting up 85,000 rural homes, with work beginning immediately.
“I’ve given the order—by December, at least 35,000 homes must be connected. No more excuses.”
In a separate development, Ruto revealed that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi had been dispatched to China to secure game-changing deals. Top on the agenda? Funding and support for key infrastructure, including the Rironi–Mau Summit–Eldoret–Bungoma–Malaba highway, a mega-project that could now be constructed in stages due to budget constraints.
Adding to the financial muscle behind the project, Ruto hinted that billions from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) could be injected into the Nairobi–Rironi–Mau Summit Highway if the joint bid with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) succeeds.
In an oddly humorous side note, Ruto’s stern sacking of the contractor drew comparisons to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, who recently fired her speechwriter after mistakenly referring to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s residence “Wamunyoro” as a vocational training center during a Madaraka Day speech.
