Gachagua Responds to Impeachment Threats.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently addressed concerns about an impeachment motion being planned by some Members of Parliament. Speaking at a market rally in Nairobi, he expressed his belief that the attempts to remove him were unfounded.

He asserted that he was elected by the Kenyan people. Only they decide his fate. Gachagua claimed that certain MPs were being financially incentivized to support the impeachment. He described this as an effort to install a ‘puppet’ in his place.

In his remarks, Gachagua also criticized Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for his handling of traders in Wakulima Market. He accused him of betraying their trust. He pointed out that the governor had received significant support from the traders during the elections.

Still, he neglected to meet their needs. This is particularly true about claims of congestion in the central business district. Gachagua’s comments highlighted a disconnect between the promises made during the campaign and the current actions taken by the governor.

The Deputy President’s allies joined him in condemning Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for publicly disrespecting Gachagua. They expressed concern over the lack of reprimand from President Ruto about Ichung’wah’s behavior.

This suggests a rift within the political ranks. This internal conflict appears to be contributing to the tensions surrounding Gachagua’s position and the potential impeachment motion.

Reports show that a faction within the Kenya Kwanza coalition is actively pursuing the impeachment of Gachagua. Various party lawmakers are discussing ways to prevent this outcome.

Despite the challenges he faces, Gachagua remains firm in his stance. He emphasizes that any decision about his removal should come from the electorate. It should not come from political maneuvering within the legislature.
