Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Saturday, March 29, 2025, elaborated on the upcoming visit by President William Ruto to the Mt. Kenya area.
While speaking in Naivasha during the consecration and installation event for Reverend Harrison Munyua at Redeemed Church, the former Deputy President confirmed that the head of state was slated to visit the region, nearly six months after their separation due to an impeachment motion.
In what seemed to be a lenient approach, Gachagua advised the people of Mt. Kenya to be ready for handouts, asserting that funds had already been prepared in sacks before the visit.
He encouraged the residents not to undervalue their applause and cheers, suggesting that they should demand high payments to listen to Ruto. Specifically, he urged the locals not to accept less than Ksh3,000.

However, Gachagua cautioned the residents of Mt. Kenya against taking that money home or using it for school fees or livestock purchases. He claimed that the funds he asserted would be distributed during the visit were cursed.
“Isn’t he preparing to come and visit you now, to speak the truth or lies? You already know, but we have said do not worry,” Gachagua remarked.
“The money has been packed in sacks so get ready; eat it but don’t take it home as it is cursed. Consume it only in the marketplace and do not mix it with your own funds,” Gachagua warned.
“And we have stated that if it’s about listening to speeches, charge a high price. So don’t accept Ksh200 to hear lies; that would make you foolish. Listening to lies should cost Ksh3,000 and above,” he asserted.
Nevertheless, Gachagua did not provide evidence to support his statements about the funds that were reportedly set to be distributed before Ruto’s visit to Mt. Kenya.
Message to Ruto
Simultaneously, Gachagua urged Ruto to come to the region ready to distribute money, indicating that the residents had supported him without expecting handouts during the 2022 General Election.
In preparation for the visit, the president sent senior government officials to lay the groundwork, which is seen as challenging since Gachagua’s departure from office.
Large welcome billboards for Ruto have been displayed in key towns throughout Mt. Kenya, including Kiambu, Nyeri, and Kirinyaga; along Thika Road; and in Embu.
His deputy, Kithure Kindiki, also dedicated significant time to visiting various locations in Mt. Kenya to set the stage for Ruto’s anticipated visit, which is expected to begin in the upcoming week.
