Four Kericho MCAs Suspended After CCTV Captures Them Stoning Governor’s Office.

Kericho County Assembly today suspended four MCAs after disturbing CCTV footage surfaced showing them hurling stones at the Governor’s office and smashing windows of the assembly building. The acts of vandalism occurred amid intense political tension during the impeachment motion against Governor Erick Mutai.

Violence in the Halls of Power

The incident dates back to August 15, the same day MCAs pushed the controversial impeachment motion. According to county leadership, the four accused—Kapsaos MCA Paul Bii; and nominated members Irene Chebet, Noela Opile, and Fancy Korir—were involved in an orchestrated attack on county property just 500 meters from the assembly complex.

In the footage, they are seen throwing stones at the Governor’s office, shattering glass, and damaging other sections of the county assembly’s premises during the uproar. The destruction took place under the watch of a deeply divided assembly and amid protests.

Assembly Takes Swift Action

In response to the outrage, the County’s Committee on Powers and Privileges moved fast. The four MCAs were banished from assembly business for 90 days and barred from attending any proceedings. They have also been instructed to apologize in writing to the committee for gross misconduct.

Assembly Majority Leader Philip Rono confirmed the decision, labeling the behavior “disrespectful to public property and a betrayal of constituents’ trust.” The suspension is official and immediate.

Political Tension Explodes

The timing of the attack is not incidental. The vandalism coincided with the impeachment motion that saw the assembly vote in favour of Governor Mutai’s removal. Although the motion was later dismissed at the Senate stage for failing to meet constitutional requirements, the fallout at the county level has left deep wounds.

Some observers suggest the stoning was meant to intimidate opponents or even influence the trajectory of the impeachment debate. Others view it as sheer frustration unleashed in a highly charged political environment.
