Eugene Wamalwa Exits Azimio After Raila’s Betrayal.

Eugene Wamalwa, a DAP-K leader and co-principal of Azimio, has also left the Azimio coalition when former Prime Minister Raila Odinga betrayed the party by joining President William Ruto’s administration.

Eugene Wamalwa declared his party, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), would no longer be associated with the Azimio Coalition while presiding over a meeting in Webuye.

“As DAP-K, we are stating that we cannot and we no longer feel it viable to maintain a connection with individuals who no longer share our values and who have consistently supported and encouraged Zakayo to reinstate severe taxes,” Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa also pointed to the coalition’s unpopularity among the populace as a result of certain of its leaders’ cooperation with the ruling Kenya Kwanza Government and their support for Gachagua’s impeachment as additional justifications for this extreme measure.

He voiced his displeasure with the new broad-based Cabinet, which includes his ODM colleagues, for supporting Ruto’s poor leadership.

“You will not claim that Ruto is the one who introduced those taxes when John Mbadi does; instead, you will claim that Ruto has persuaded some of our ODM colleagues to follow in his footsteps and become Zakayos,” he said.

Wamalwa declared after the exit that the party will start a nationwide recruitment campaign right away to find candidates to run in every electoral seat in the 2027 election.
