Deadly Bus Crash in Nyachabo Leaves One Dead, Many Injured

A tragic bus accident along the Migori Highway in Nyachabo has claimed one life and left several others injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the bus, packed with passengers, veered off the highway and plunged into a ditch after the driver lost control.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the bus was traveling from Kehancha in Kisii to Migori Town. The individual who died on the spot is believed to have been a crew member, possibly the bus manager.

Emergency responders quickly arrived to assist passengers trapped in the wreckage. The injured received first aid at the scene before being transported to various hospitals in Migori for further treatment.

Video footage from the accident site shows residents gathering as rescue efforts unfolded. The bus was seen tilted on its side, with its windscreen shattered and glass fragments scattered around.

This accident highlights the alarming rise in road incidents across the country this year. Just a week earlier, a collision between a lorry and a matatu on the Kitale-Eldoret Highway resulted in ten fatalities.

According to a police report, the lorry, which was carrying pipes, lost control and crashed into an oncoming matatu, killing nine people instantly. Five others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Uasin Gishu Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi noted that the lorry was speeding at the time of the crash.

The increase in road accidents comes as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) urges drivers to prioritize safety, particularly for children traveling to and from school. The NTSA has emphasized the importance of roadworthy vehicles, valid insurance, and adherence to speed limits to reduce accidents.
