Questions have been asked as to why Most Christians mark Sunday as their day of worship, instead of Saturday when the Jews observe Sabbath.
Sunday is a very important day for the church, as it is the day Christ rose from the grave. It was also on a Sunday, fiftieth day after Easter and ten days after Jesus ascended to Heaven that the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles who were gathered in Jerusalem.
The early church therefore begun meeting on Sunday in honor of Christ’s resurrection, and this became a tradition long before Emperor Constantine issued a civil decree making Sunday a day of rest from labor in 321 AD.
(Acts 20:7) ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.
(Corinthians 16:1–2) On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.
Happy Easter to all Christians around the world, as we mark the most important Christian feast.
The liturgical color today is white, to symbolize the resurrection of Christ. White expresses joy, celebration, purity and victory.
