Opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa have issued a seven-day ultimatum to President William Ruto to address the escalating cases of abductions across the country. They have warned of massive anti-government protests if their demands are not met.
Speaking in Kakamega, the leaders also called for the unconditional release of protesters detained on Monday. Additionally, they urged the United Nations to suspend Kenya’s membership in the human rights council, accusing the government of widespread human rights violations in recent months.
“Listen to the cries of these parents. Return their children, and if you fail to act by next week, prepare for the largest demonstrations this country has ever seen. Are you ready for this, Mumias?” Wamalwa challenged.
Kalonzo echoed this sentiment, pledging unwavering commitment to what he described as the fight for Kenya’s liberation in 2025. “We assure the people of Kakamega, Mumias East, and all Kenyans that we will not stop until this nation is truly free,” he declared.
The opposition leaders called on the UN to take decisive action against Kenya, citing ongoing violations. “Kenya should be suspended from the council. It is unacceptable for our representative to remain on this committee while our citizens suffer such injustices. This is a national disgrace,” Kalonzo emphasized.
Wamalwa concluded by stating, “We give him seven days. By next Wednesday, if the court is still holding those six youths, including Bill Mwangi and Kibett, the consequences will be inevitable.”
