NTSA Addresses Claims Of Displaying Sensitive Data Of Car Owners’ On Its Portal.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has denied social media reports that it is displaying sensitive information about car owners on its portal.

In a statement on Friday, April 26, NTSA noted that it complies with all requirements of the Data Protection Act.

According to the authority, a public copy of records containing a section of details of the registered owner of a vehicle or motorcycle is available online.

“It highlights all the particulars of the vehicle/motor cycle including Chassis number, model, engine number, entry number, fuel type, logbook number, registration date, and caveat status among other details,” read the statement in part.

NTSA pointed out that the only personal details available in the document include the registered owner’s name, the owner’s KRA pin number, and traffic charges if aany.

“The motor vehicle copy of records does not reveal the Email address, ID number, and phone number of the registered owner (s),” NTSA stated. The clarification comes after a social media user claimed that sensitive information about Kenyans owning vehicles can be viewed by searching for a registration number.

NTSA registers all vehicles in its system before issuing number plates, with the information stored on the website.

A public copy of a number plate search can be accessed for a fee of Sh550.
