Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has declared that he will subject any of his children who do not participate in the anti-Finance Bill protests to a DNA test.Kaluma stressed the need to stand against over-taxation and government corruption.
In a post on X, Kaluma asserted that the youth of Kenya must unite to achieve what the older generation could not.
“Any child of mine who will not join other children of Kenya in the streets this Tuesday to protest over-taxation and government corruption will face a DNA test! The children of Kenya must walk together to succeed where we failed,” the legislator stated.
His comments come ahead of Tuesday’s planned protests by the youth across the country.
The protests are set to continue this week, with a climax scheduled for Thursday.
Last week, Kenya’s Gen Z staged countrywide protests against the 2024 Finance Bill, calling for its rejection.
The protests began in Nairobi on Tuesday and spread to Mombasa on Wednesday.
By Thursday, other regions including Kisii, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, and Nanyuki had joined the movement.
Despite the widespread protests, 204 Members of Parliament voted in favor of the Bill, while 105 voted against it.
With the majority in favor, the Bill will now move to the Committee of the whole House for amendments starting next Tuesday.
MP Kaluma – My children will have to undergo DNA testing if they don’t participate in the protests.
