Kindiki Moves to Diminish Gachagua’s Influence in Mt. Kenya

Checkmate as KINDIKI Acts to Counter GACHAGUA’s Growing Influence in Mt. Kenya – A Look at His Strategy Following the Former DP’s Meeting with Murang’a MCAs

A strategic contest for dominance in the populous Mt. Kenya region is unfolding between Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua.

Just two days after Gachagua sought to strengthen his support by engaging with Murang’a MCAs in anticipation of the 2027 General Election, Kindiki swiftly initiated measures to diminish the former DP’s rising influence by convening with MPs from the same county.

In a consultative meeting held in Karen, Nairobi yesterday, Kindiki gathered several Murang’a County MPs to discuss key development programs and projects.

“Consultative meeting with a section of Members of Parliament from Murang’a County to deliberate on priority development programmes and projects,” noted Kindiki in a statement posted on his X account.

This meeting falls within Kenya Kwanza’s recent strategy to reinforce political support in the Mount Kenya region, where backing has waned since Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.

On Wednesday, Gachagua engaged with the Murang’a Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at his residence in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County.

During their discussions, he highlighted the critical need to consider grassroots perspectives and understand local challenges.
