21 Homes and 12 Shops Destroyed in Fiery Kiambu Blaze

A gas explosion-triggered fire in Mwimuto, Kiambu County, has devastated the area, resulting in the destruction of 21 houses and 12 shops. This disaster has left many residents homeless and business owners facing significant losses.

Witnesses reported that the fire spread quickly, hindering efforts to save belongings. One victim lamented, “All my household items, including my TV and furniture, have been destroyed. I’ve lost everything and have nowhere to go or start over. ”

Another resident recounted the destruction, stating, “At least 21 houses and 12 shops have been destroyed in the fire. Nothing could be salvaged. The explosion was unforeseen, according to the gas owner. ”

This tragedy comes just days after 200 families in Lang’ata Constituency’s Soweto Highrise lost their homes in a nighttime fire on February 7. Area MP Phelix Odiwuor, also known as Jalang’o, confirmed on February 8 that the fire also impacted local businesses, though there were no reported injuries.

Efforts to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing, but it has been contained. Jalang’o mentioned that plans are being made to support the affected families as they work to rebuild their lives.
