High Schools Sending Students Home Due to KUPPET Strike.

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) strike is in its second week. As a result, high schools are sending students back home.

This is due to the lack of teachers. In Nakuru County, schools like Jomo Kenyatta Boys Secondary School have already sent students in lower forms back home. Jomo Kenyatta Girls’ Secondary School has also sent students in lower forms back home. This situation is disrupting learning.

Parents were informed early Monday morning. They were told to expect their children back home. Schools cited the absence of teachers to teach and care for the students.

Schools like Nakuru High School and Meru Secondary School have also followed suit, halting learning activities.

Parents expressed disappointment in the government and urged the president to handle the teachers’ needs to guarantee continuous learning. The strike started as an industrial dispute. It has now become a “struggle for justice” as teachers demand promotions and recognition for their hard work.

KUPPET leaders have resolved to continue the strike, emphasizing the need for teacher promotions and respect for their dedication.

The strike’s impact is already affecting the third term and upcoming KCSE exams. Private schools continue with learning activities amidst the strike.
