Ex-NOC-K official detained over alleged shooting of his wife.

Former National Olympics Committee of Kenya official Stephen Arap Soi was arrested. He allegedly shot and seriously injured his wife at their home in Narok County.

He also served as Team Kenya Chief de Mission at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Soi, a senior General Service Unit (GSU) police officer, is facing charges of attempted murder pending the completion of investigations.

This incident follows his earlier sentencing in 2021 for his involvement in the 2016 Rio Olympics scandal.

The police reported that Soi, a licensed gun holder, wounded his wife during an altercation. This resulted in her admission to a local hospital in stable condition. Upon visiting the scene, the police found a spare magazine with 12 bullets.

They also discovered the gun used in the incident and a spent cartridge. Soi was later arrested, and the gun was sent for ballistic testing. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and Soi is expected to face charges of attempted murder.
