Ruto’s Joking Response to Muturi’s Son’s Abduction by NIS

Observe President Ruto’s lighthearted reaction to a distressed Muturi’s revelation about his son’s abduction by NIS officers.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has recounted a conversation with President William Ruto regarding the abduction of his son, Leslie, last June.

During a statement at the DCI offices at Kilimani Police Station, Muturi disclosed that he visited State House in search of answers after receiving none from security officials.

He expressed his suspicions to Ruto about NIS’s involvement in his son’s abduction, although the President appeared uneasy about the matter.

“After the initial pleasantries, I shared my concerns with the President, who explained that his phone had malfunctioned due to a surge of messages.

I detailed my experiences and mentioned that senior government officials had been unable to assist.

I voiced my belief that NIS was detaining my son,” he recalled.

Muturi stated that Ruto responded with humor before directly contacting Haji to inquire about Leslie’s status.

“The President jested, questioning why anyone would arrest a young person involved in the Gen Z demonstrations. He noted that Kiunjuri’s son and others had participated in similar protests. He then called Noordin Haji directly,” Muturi recounted.

Muturi remarked that it was during this call that Haji reportedly confirmed Leslie’s detention.

“While standing outside the pavilion, I overheard the President asking Noordin Haji whether he was holding my son, to which Haji affirmed. The President directed him to release Leslie immediately.

Haji then assured that Leslie would be released within an hour,” he disclosed.

According to Muturi, Leslie was indeed released shortly after Ruto’s order.
